Bridgeport wildlife control tip of the month:

Bat Repellent

Even though bats control various pests, mosquitoes and other insects, there is no Bridgeport animal control way, one can enjoy them living under their roof. In order to exclude bats from the house various natural and store-bought repellents are used. In this article we will discuss the effectiveness of these bat repellents.

The best know Bridgeport pest control natural repellents are substances of strong smells. Bats are sensitive to strong fragrances such as menthol, eucalyptus, mint and peppermint. In order to see some (if any) decreasing changes in bats population, one should use great amounts of these substances. They ought to be sprayed or spread everywhere in the attic or other inhabited place, once or twice a week.

Unusual substances as coyote urine and human hair are also known to have been used in Bridgeport wildlife removal practice. However, the professionals do not recommend using these substances, claiming it will be just a waste of time and money. Using natural repellents require frequent attention and work and it does not guarantee that bats will not be back again.

Stores now offer a wide variety of Bridgeport animal trapping repellents that may also be used in order to exclude bats from the premises. There are number of gel or liquid repellents which irritate mammals with the smell and they do not want to get back. The most important concern is to check that repellents are not poisonous (killing bats is illegal in most of the states). Before using liquid or gel repellents an inhabited place should be examined and one should be acquainted when bats leave the premises. Only then, these repellents can be spread or sprayed in inhabited place.

Chemicals like naphthalene (found in mothballs) and ammonia are also known to have strong scents which irritate bats. However, their use is quite ineffective and it causes danger for humans or pets as well. Especially, if there are small children at home their use should be highly considered.

As much as bats are sensitive to smell, they are also sensitive to sounds. In stores, now, one can buy more expensive repellents as electronic or ultrasonic bat deterrents. Basically, they emit changing sound waves which annoy bat and they start searching for other shelters. Natural and store-bought repellents may seem as a satisfactory ways to exclude bats, but they are not quite effective as netting and sealing the entrances. Also, before buying any repellent, it is important to know whether any of the substance in the product is lethal for a bat. If it so, do not buy the Bridgeport exterminator product as it is illegal in almost in every state to kill a bat.
