Newton wildlife control tip of the month:

Rat Prevention Tips: How to Keep Rats Away

Rat can be very persistent when it comes to food. As human´s settlements are the main source of food to them, rats will use any possibility they get. The main things they want are food, water and shelter, therefore we need to eliminate access to those three things and there shouldn´t be any Newton animal control problems with rats.

Firstly, you need to cover your trash cans; make sure the lids on trash cans are tightly closed and no holes in them. Secure them in the way they can't be tipped over. Store your pet food; rats just love pet food. That is why it´s important to feed your pets inside or always clean up after your pet, if you feed your pet outside. Pet food and bird food must be stored in closed, lidded containers.

Watch your composting; while composting is very useful in this case some Newton wildlife removal adjustments must be made. Place your compost container above ground – minimum 1 foot. Pick up fallen fruit on a regular basis; fruits need to be cleaned continuously.

Inspect your house for any cracks or holes in your foundation and windows. These have to be repaired in order to keep rats out. Newton animal trapping Pipes, stove and dryer vents need to be thoroughly checked. If there are any gaps or openings, cover them with sheet-metal collars. Keep pests from climbing up your siding; you need to place a strip of flashing all around your house. It should be at least 18 inches high to prevent rats from entering upper parts of the house. Keep the outside area tidy; the vines such as ivy are ideal for these little creatures. They use them well for hiding and climbing. Bushes and shrubs need to be trimmed above the ground, making sure nothing could hide under it.

Rats are quite unstoppable, when we talk about entering the yard. Regular fences aren´t much helpful unless they are made of stone or metal; and should be high enough to prevent rodents from climbing it. Rats have extremely strong jaws and teeth and are able to chew through almost anything. They are just like little drilling machines. Having said that, maybe the best natural Newton exterminator remedies how to keep rats from yard are dogs and cats. However, this pest is very intelligent and will avoid the predator. So just do anything you can to seal your house and at least keep them out of your house.
