How to get Skunk Out from Under a Shed or Porch

Unprotected sheds and porches are perfect places for skunk to build a den. It is just the kind of shelter skunk is looking for its home. Area under a shed or porch provides the skunk with all three basic Ridgefield animal control necessities; vicinity of food, water and a shelter. Even though skunks are generally nice and peaceful animals you have to be very careful how You handle them. You can easily get sprayed with the most obnoxious scent ever, if they feel threaten and another thing we shouldn´t forget they are also carriers of rabies. So, take time and right steps, when you decide to remove them out from under a shed or a porch.

Getting skunk from under a shed or a porch should be done in following Ridgefield pest control steps:
• Determine if skunk is living under the building
• Large cages/traps should be purchased
• Determine the right location for trap
• Trap and relocate the skunk
• Repair the area where skunk has been living

STEP 1
You need to determine which animal is living under your building and proceed with extraction of the animal according to plan.

After the establishment what kind of animal and its size, is living under the shed or a porch, a large cage trap needs to be purchased; a live trap, designed and made of solid construction and material that won´t hurt the animal. The usual size of the trap is approximately 10" x 12" x 30".

Learn where areas of skunk´s activities are the highest. Find the perfect location where the trap can be placed and bait it with some pet food. Trap should be without any scent, leveled with surface and not placed to under a direct sun. After placing the trap check continuously, if there is any action.

STEP 4
As soon as the skunk is trapped, start with relocation plan. Cover the trap with canvas or blanket for distraction. Keep in mind, if handling the skunk always wears gloves. Trapped skunk has to be relocated at least 10 miles away from the capture site.

STEP 5
As soon as you relocate the animal, consider starting with house repairs. You need to block all accessing points and locate and repair all openings. Install barrier-a steel meshed fence all around the building or at the opening. Place the Ridgefield wildlife removal fence in the ground, minimum 12˝, with bottom sloping outward in the L position.
